Looking after your pet’s teeth is very important. Dental disease is the most common disease in cats and dogs. It can be a cause of chronic discomfort, difficulty eating, excessive salivation and bad breath.
At the AWL Veterinary Clinic we offer dental treatments including scaling using an ultrasonic scaler to remove plaque and calculus from the tooth surface. The tooth is then polished to remove any residual build up.
In more advanced cases of dental disease, diseased teeth may require extraction. Dental extraction requires the tooth to be freed from the surrounding bone and ligaments using specialised dental instruments and high-speed drills.
All dental procedures are performed under a general anaesthetic.
A dental examination is part of your pet’s general health check at every consultation but should you have any concerns about your pet’s dental health please book a consultation to see one of our veterinarians.
When it comes to your pet’s dental health, prevention is best. Our veterinarians are able to discuss the best dental homecare options for your pet with you.
