Microchipping

Under the Companion Animals Act 1998, it is mandatory that all dogs and cats must be microchipped before being adopted, sold or given away. AWL offers a microchipping service through our Shelters.

Before lifetime registering your companion animal, your companion animal must be microchipped. If your companion animal has already been microchipped you will need to provide proof of the microchip number (this can be located on the certificate you received at the time your companion animal was microchipped). You must also provide proof of desexing if applicable. If applying for a pensioner discount a government pensioner card must be shown.

The once-off lifetime registration fees are:

Undesexed companion animal - $150
Desexed companion animal - $40
Desexed companion animal owned by a pensioner - $15
Recognised breeder - $40
Assistance Animal - free

Remember that if you move house or locations, to contact the council in your new area to update your microchip information.

All pets should also wear a well fitting collar and pet tag engraved with your contact details, as this will often ensure your pet is returned to you even faster.

Please contact us on 8899 3333 to arrange an appointment to have your companion pet microchipped and/or lifetime registered.

For additional protection register your pet with the Australasian Animal Registry (AAR), a division of the Royal Agricultural Society by visiting www.aar.org.au or calling 02 9704 1450 during business hours.
