Meetings: 2nd Saturday of 2nd Month, private house.
Over 40 years ago, a small group of people in the Illawarra area banded together to help animals in distress and thus laid the foundations for the Illawarra Branch of AWL NSW as it is today.
Many years have lapsed, but our mission has remained the same: to achieve a reasonable quality of life for all animals by giving practical assistance to them and their owners when needed.
Our Branch receives thousands of requests each year to help solve many and varied animal problems, not only from the general public, but also from community groups, local Councils, hospitals, schools, commercial businesses, heavy industry, and the police. Through discussion, counselling, co-operation and financial assistance we work to achieve positive outcomes, with the animal’s best interests always being our foremost priority.
Some of our activities include:
- a cheaper desexing program for pet cats and dogs whose owners are on a Centrelink benefit or have a low income Health Care Card
- the acceptance of unwanted kittens, cats and other small companion animals
- education and advice on responsible pet ownership and current pet ownership laws
- the support and active promotion of State and National Bills that favour intelligent animal welfare stategies
Please contact us if you can help the Illawarra Branch of AWL continue to help the animals in any way.
