Expert Care with Heart
Our team of experienced veterinarians, nurses, and volunteers are passionate about animal wellbeing. As pet owners and foster carers themselves, they understand the deep bond between people and their pets. That’s why we focus on gentle, fear-free care, helping pets feel safe while receiving the best medical attention at every stage of life.
Supporting Our Shelter Animals. Every animal that comes into our care receives the medical attention they need to recover, thrive, and find a loving home. From routine health checks to life-saving treatments, our veterinary team plays a vital role in giving these animals a second chance.
Here for the Community. Beyond our shelter work, we offer private veterinary consultations to pet owners, providing affordable, high-quality care to help pets stay healthy and happy with their families for as long as possible.

Veterinary Services
The AWL NSW Veterinary Clinic offers the following veterinary services to the public. The clinic is not-for-profit with all proceeds going towards the care of our animals looking for their forever homes, as well as stray and neglected animals.
Consultations with our veterinary team are by appointment, helping us to minimise waiting times wherever possible. In the rare event that an emergency causes delays, our reception team will keep you informed of expected waiting periods.
On weekdays, we have a team of three to four veterinarians available, each with their own areas of special interest and expertise. This ensures that even in complex cases, you can always access the right advice and care for your pet.

Why We Recommend Desexing Your Pet
Desexing is a simple procedure that supports your pet’s health and our community.
Better Health: Desexing of a female helps prevent uterine infections and greatly lowers the risk of mammary cancer. Desexing a male reduces the chance of testicular cancer and prostate problems, giving pets a healthier life.
Improved Behaviour: Desexed pets are less likely to roam, spray, or show aggression driven by mating instincts, making them easier to train and live with.
Supporting the Community: By preventing unexpected litters, desexing helps keep stray numbers down and reduces the demand on shelters and rescue groups, leading to better welfare outcomes for all animals. Desexing is a one-time procedure that offers lifelong benefits for your pet, your household, and the wider community.
Our veterinary surgeons are highly experienced in performing both spey and castration surgeries, as well as other routine procedures, with hundreds carried out in our clinic each year.
Discounted Desexing
Discounted desexing is not available at our Kemps Creek Clinic.
However, AWL NSW Volunteer Branches may offer subsidised desexing vouchers for pets in their local communities. To check your eligibility, please contact your nearest Volunteer Branch directly. They can provide details on costs and any other requirements.
We offer routine surgeries such as desexing, as well as a range of soft tissue and limited orthopaedic procedures.
Surgical services for private patients are available Monday to Friday.
For more complex or less routine surgeries, we also engage a visiting specialist surgeon who attends our clinic as needed to perform or advise on advanced procedures.
Imaging can be a helpful way for our veterinarians to gain more information about your pet’s health.
Our clinic has a purpose built x-ray suite, with digital radiography equipment installed. This allows our veterinarians to take high-quality radiographs more efficiently.
In most instances, patients are placed under general anaesthesia to obtain the best quality image. This allows our veterinarians to carefully position your pet and keeps them still while the radiograph is taken.
Blood Testing
Our Veterinary Clinic is equipped with advanced in-house pathology laboratory, including Cytology and biochemistry & Haematology testing. This allows us to carry out many blood tests quickly and accurately, with results often available in as little as 15 minutes. For more complex or comprehensive testing, we also work closely with external Veterinary Pathology Services.
Pre-Anaesthetic Blood Testing
If your pet is scheduled for surgery, we recommend a pre-anaesthetic blood profile. This test screens for abnormalities in major organ function and helps us tailor the safest possible anaesthetic plan. While every anaesthetic carries some risk, factors such as age or underlying health conditions can increase this. Identifying any issues in advance allows our veterinarians to adjust drug choices or the surgical approach to reduce risk and ensure your pet’s wellbeing.
General Health & Illness
Blood testing is also an essential tool when your pet is unwell or requires certain medications. Many health issues may not show obvious signs until they are advanced, but blood screening can reveal early changes, enabling treatment before illness becomes more serious. Our veterinarians may run tests in-house for immediate results or use external laboratories for more detailed investigations.
By combining fast in-clinic testing with access to comprehensive external services, we ensure your pet receives the highest standard of care and the most accurate diagnosis.
Our professional team can advise you on the best vaccination regime for your pet at every stage of life.
Our veterinarians keep up to date with all the latest in recommended vaccination regimes to ensure that your pet is protected against viral infections, which can prove deadly.
Remembering that prevention is always better than cure, our staff will be happy to advise you on how to ensure that your pet has been protected against the deadly viruses they may be exposed to in Australia.
Microchipping is an important way of identifying your pet.
All of our vets are accredited to implant microchips in dogs, cats and rabbits.
Microchips are inserted under the skin in between the shoulder blades.
If your contact details should change, please contact your local council to have your details updated on the microchip registry.
Prevention treatments are very important when it comes to parasites. We have a range of products available for your beloved pet.
Deciding on the most effective treatment and prevention for intestinal worms, fleas, mites and deadly paralysis ticks can be difficult. Our staff will be happy to help you decide on a parasite prevention regime for throughout the year which suits both you and your pet’s needs.
Maintaining healthy teeth and gums is an essential part of supporting your pet’s long-term health and comfort.
Our team can advise you on the best ways to prevent dental disease, as well as when a dental procedure may be necessary for your pet.
Our experienced veterinary surgeons perform numerous dental procedures each week, ranging from simple scaling and polishing to complex treatments requiring multiple extractions. With the aid of dental x-ray equipment, we are able to provide a high standard of care and ensure the best possible outcomes for your pet’s oral health.
Although we are unable to offer a routine grooming service as such, we are however happy to provide a remedial clipping service for pets who require a fresh start to all or part of their coat due to matting, and particularly for those pets which require either a light or heavy sedation for this to be carried out.
