AWL NSW Batemans Bay Dog Training Club

About our Club

The Animal Welfare League NSW Batemans Bay Dog Training Club was founded in 2017 by Robert Loftus. Before coming to Australia, Robert was an Agility judge in Europe, and quickly became a well-known dog trainer in Sydney. Later retiring to the NSW South Coast, Robert initiated the Batemans Bay Dog Training Club and was an advocate for positive reinforcement training techniques. The club has continued his legacy after his passing.

The club gives local dog owners a place to learn positive ways on how to train and manage their dogs using reward-based training methods. Our training classes provide information on how to build confidence, train, and work in distracting environments, as well as prepare for veterinary or grooming visits. Our training club accepts any breed from 16 weeks of age and offers a fun place for you and your canine companion to learn together.

New members and their dogs start their training journey by learning new foundation and life skills including obedience, enrichment, and co-operative care.

Our foundation class is a six-week program with the club taking new registrations every two months. After this program, we encourage our club members to continue their training with more advanced classes. Our club also offers fun activities and training in agility, rally-o. tracking and scentwork for its members.

Our Instructors

All of our instructors are dedicated Animal Welfare League NSW volunteers. They are experienced handlers who continue to train and update their knowledge in the industry. Some of our instructors train in various disciplines such as Obedience and other sports, and many have their own multi-dog households to enjoy. Our instructors are on-hand each week to give advice and assistance as part of our training program.

Club Fees

The AWL NSW Batemans Bay Dog Training Club runs training classes throughout the year and class sizes are limited so booking for the foundation class is essential.

Initial joining fees:

  • $35 – Single and Family (same address)
  • $25 – Concession and Junior Handler (under 18 years, accompanied by an adult)

A weekly ground fee of $3 is payable for each session attended.
Club registration is renewed every 12 months and is $15 per year.

How to Join

New handlers wishing to register for the foundation class can contact the club via email or our Facebook page to register their interest. The club accepts new dogs from 16 weeks old and over and current vaccination papers for your dog must be shown at the time of registration.

Our club reserves the right to deny membership to its training programs, if believed that such access may compromise the safety of other handlers or their dogs.

Each training session, you will need to bring:

  • A flat-lead and collar for your dog
  • poop bags to clean-up after your dog
  • Dog water and a bowl
  • A mat
  • Soft and yummy dog treats to use while training

Please wear comfortable closed-in shoes.
