Far South Coast

About Us

The Animal Welfare League NSW Far South Coast Branch was proudly established in 2000. Our team is made up of passionate volunteers committed to improving the lives of companion animals and supporting pet owners in the Bega Shire Valley.

We care for animals through a trusted network of foster carers, rather than from a shelter facility.

Our Branch covers the area from Wallaga Lake in the North, Victorian border in the South, and Wyndham to Bemboka in the West. We also support the Mallacoota, Bombala, Cooma and Eurobodalla areas as needed.

What We Do

Subsidised Desexing

As part of AWL NSW’s commitment to responsible pet ownership, our Branch provides subsidised desexing services through local vet clinics. This support is intended for pensioners, low-income earners, and anyone experiencing financial hardship within our community.
Please note: this assistance is for owned pets only. Eligibility and availability may vary.

Adoptions

Our Branch helps local animals in need find loving, permanent homes. We support the adoption process by caring for and preparing pets for rehoming, assisting with meet-and-greets, and helping match each animal with the right family.

All animals available for adoption are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped.

Rehoming

If you are looking to surrender your pet, please get in touch with us. Our ability to accept surrendered animals depends on our current capacity and resources, but we will always do our best to help or guide you to alternative support.

How You Can Help

Become a Member

Support our Branch and the animals we care for by becoming a member. Your membership helps fund essential services and makes you part of a passionate community dedicated to animal welfare.

Become a Foster Carer

Open your heart and home to an animal in need. Foster carers provide temporary care for animals until they are ready for adoption. Please note you may be required to host meet-and-greets in your home with potential adopters.

Become a Volunteer

Join our Branch team and make a real difference! Volunteers assist with a range of activities, including animal care, administration, events and fundraising, community outreach, social media, and photography. Whether you can spare a few hours or more, your time and skills are invaluable. Please contact us to find out more.

Make a Donation

Our Branch depends on the support of our community to continue our vital work. We gratefully accept monetary donations as well as goods such as pet food, bedding, toys, and other pet supplies. Every donation, big or small, helps us care for animals in need. Please contact us to discuss how you can donate.

Our branch has six drop-off bins in the Bega Valley Shire. These are located at Coles in Bega and Eden, and Woolworths in Bega, Merimbula, Tura Beach and Bermagui.
