Kemps Creek Shelter is the premier animal welfare facility situated between Liverpool and Penrith. Adopt a pet! We offer dogs, puppies, cats and kittens for adoption.

Our shelter is open for adoptions from 10.00am – 3.30pm seven days per week and surrenders by appointment (closed on Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Good Friday and Easter Sunday).

The Animal Welfare League Veterinary Hospital offers veterinary services to the public. The veterinary hospital is not-for-profit with all proceeds going towards the care of our animals looking for their forever homes, as well as stray and neglected animals.

We are open 7 days a week by appointment.

Opening hours

Monday to Friday – 9:00am to 12:00pm (closed from 12-2pm), 2:00pm – 6.30pm

Saturday to Sunday – 9:00am to 1:00pm

Consultation prices start from $60.00. During consultations our veterinarians will perform a thorough examination of your pet and address any particular concerns or questions you may have. Consultations generally take between 15 and 30 minutes.

Narooma Dog Training Club

Narooma Dog Training Club has been operating in the Eurobodalla Shire for more than 10 years. Under the expert eye of the Chief Instructor Yve Robinson, pet owners learn to be responsible dog handlers. Dogs of all ages acquire good manners, socialise with other dogs and importantly, socialise with us humans.

All Instructors are dedicated Animal Welfare League NSW volunteers and are very experienced handlers who have completed obedience training to CCD level. They offer free advice and assistance as part of the training program.
The annual registration fee per handler is:

  • $25 Concession – Youth under 18/Pensioner
  • $40 Single Adult
  • $60 Family

A weekly ground fee of $3 is payable for each session attended.

Registration takes place on the 1st Saturday of each month at 1:30pm. Obedience Classes are held from 2:00pm – 3:00pm for all levels.
Agility Classes are held from 3:30pm – 4:30pm for dogs over 9 month old with basic obedience skills.

Please bring the vaccination papers for your dog.

Narooma Dog Training Club operates every Saturday except Public Holiday weekends, and the Christmas break.

About the Bathurst Branch

Bathurst branch is run fully by local residents who volunteer their time. We do not have a shelter and our foster animals stay with volunteer foster carers. If you are interested in becoming a carer please contact us.

Central Coast

The branch hold street stalls (usually at Randwick or Maroubra Junction) and also have an information and fundraising table most Sundays at the Rotary, Fitzroy Gardens and Kings Cross markets. You can help by volunteering at our street stalls or making home-made items to sell.

Become a valued carer for Animal Welfare League NSW cats and dogs waiting for homes though our Foster Care Program (accreditation and support provided).
You can also become an animal shelter volunteer providing occasional transport between the Animal Welfare League Kemps Creek shelter and vet practices in the Eastern Suburbs for kittens waiting to be rehomed.

Our volunteers are involved with activities like caring and fostering, fundraising, welfare, liaison, publicity, arranging desexing and subsidies, and any activity to assist with the Animal Welfare League NSW cause.

This branch is reliant on donations and conducts three major fundraising events per year – a Garage Sale in the South in March, Annual Tailwaggers Walk on the third Sunday in September and a Garage Sale in the North in November. We’re also often found at local markets and festivals.

Our general meetings are held every third Wednesday of every month unless advised to members otherwise.

We are able to assist Pensioners and low income earners who reside in the Eurobodalla area only with desexing. Contact Ann 0415 052 291 for an appointment.

Far South Coast

Our Branch conducts extensive desexing programs and heavily subsidise or meet the full cost of desexing companion animals for community members who cannot afford to pay for the procedure.

We rehome dogs from the Bega Valley Shire Pound and devote time to fundraising activities.

You can donate animal items to one of our five drop-off bins in the Bega Valley Shire – located at Coles in Bega and Eden, and Woolworths in Merimbula, Tura Beach and Bermagui. You can also make a tax deductible financial donation, join as a member or volunteer to help with fundraising, administration, transportation or foster caring.

Meetings are held at the Tathra Bowling Club, Dikera Road, Tathra bi-monthly at 11.00 am on the 4th Sunday of the month. Visitors are welcome.
Our branch covers the area from Wallaga Lake in the North, Victorian border in the South, and Wyndham to Bemboka in the West. We also support the Mallacoota, Bombala, Cooma and Eurobodalla areas as needed.

This branch is situated on the Mid North Coast of NSW and covers an area from Tea Gardens in the South to Kempsey in the north. We are always looking for animal shelter volunteers, foster carers and donations.

Donations can be dropped to our Animal Welfare League NSW Op Shop, located in Dolphin Arcade, Tuncurry.

Our meeting are held on the 2nd Saturday of every month at 2pm at the Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club on Parkes Street, Tuncurry. Open 9:00am-4:00pm weekdays, and 9:00am-12:00pm Saturdays.

Hawkesbury Valley

We promote responsible pet ownership, including desexing animals before breeding age and microchipping to help decrease the large numbers of surrendered, lost and abandoned animals.

We can assist you financially in desexing your animal via the Companion Animal Assistance Scheme (CAAS).

Hawkesbury Valley branch is always looking for volunteers to help care for the animals and their people in the community. You can become a foster carer, share your time and skills as an animal shelter volunteer, or making a tax deductible cash donation. We also accept donations of collars and leads, cat litter trays and litter, blankets and towels for bedding and consumable items of pet foods.

Meetings are held on the 1st Saturday of each month (except January) from 11am at the Richmond Club, 6 Market Street, Richmond.

Our branch receives thousands of requests each year to help solve animal problems. We work to achieve positive outcomes, with the animal’s best interests always being our foremost priority.

We accept financial donations and the donations of goods such as towels or cat items. Branch volunteers are able to pick up donations if requested – please contact us if you’d like to donate.

We also are able to provide a subsidised desexing program for cats and dogs whose owners are on a Centrelink benefit or have a low income Health Care Card.

We are passionate, animal-loving volunteers, who take abandoned dogs and puppies, cats and kittens that are surrendered to us by the general public or from the pound, into our own homes. We rehabilitate and give vet care whilst we foster, and then find the very best adoptive forever homes for them.

We service Moree as well as areas of Narrabri, Warialda, Inverell, Goondiwindi and west of Dubbo as required.

We offer discount desexing for pensioner card holders. Please contact us for an appointment.

You can help us by fostering a dog or cat, donating financially or with items like blankets, flea treatments and other dog and cat items. We have donation bins located at both Coles and Woolworths in Moree for donations of items. Moree Veterinary Hospital also accepts financial and item donations for us.

North Coast

We are a smaller branch, with approximately 25 people volunteering their time to help local animals in need and have been operational for about 20 years.

Our branch area covers from Tweed Heads in the north to Coffs Harbour in the south. Our main area of operation centres around the Byron Shire, with an ‘office’ at our Cat Adoption Centre in Mullumbimby, which cares for surrendered cats/kittens until they are adopted.

Foster carers and carers at the Cat Adoption Centre are always needed.

Our monthly meeting takes place at the Ex Services Club, Mullumbimby, second Wednesday of every month, at 5.30 pm.

The Animal Welfare League NSW Shoalhaven Branch are dedicated volunteers who conduct many activities including rehabilitation and fostering of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.

We arrange subsidised desexing programs for the local community, run programs to assist the pets of the homeless and offer information on all kinds of animals.

Fundraising for our branch includes monthly stalls, raffles, garage sales and much more. We rely on fundraising to help with the care of our animals and appreciate all donations including all animal products, bedding, food etc in reasonable condition.

We hold second hand good stalls every second Thursday of each month in Junction Court at the bottom of Junction St Nowra (weather permitting).
Meetings are held at the Bomaderry Bowling Club every second Monday of each month at 10am in the boardroom (visitors are always welcome).

Western Suburbs & Hills District

Our Western Suburbs Branch was established in the 1970s, and has rescued well over 3,000 animals from local pounds, and provides subsidised desexing to thousands of local residents every year.

We also work with the local community and the Blacktown Animal Holding Facility to help rehome cats and kittens.

If you’d like to help out our branch you can donate items like bedding, kitty litter and collars/leads. Monetary donations are gratefully received and used to support our subsidised desexing program.

We cover the Western Sydney area (Blacktown and surrounds) and the Hills District (Baulkham Hills and surrounds).

Our branch meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at the Reg Byrne Community Centre, located on the corner of Fyall and Darcy Roads, Wentworthville NSW, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
